Financial Recession = Entrepreneur Recession?

November 20, 2009

Since mid-March the S&P 500 has gone from 675 to 1,100, nearly doubling. However unemployment is still roughly 10%. Are we still in a recession? I would argue yes, strictly based on unemployment and consumer spending. Contrary to popular belief, a recessionary time (most of this year) provides a great opportunity for fellow entrepreneurs to open the business of their dreams. Although the stock market has increased drastically, there are still many corporations that are struggling. This is sad news for most, but it allows fellow business owners/entrepreneurs the opportunity to negotiate prices on many things. Whether you are in need of a new computer or marketing material, now is the time for you to leverage the downturn in the economy to your benefit. For example many media outlets (TV, radio, etc.) are looking to meet their sales goals for year-end. With the right timing and wording, there is opportunity to save up to 50% on many necessary items whether your business is web-based or a traditional brick and mortar organization. You will never know if a discount is available unless you ask. Always ask for a discount on anything you buy….especially in this market environment! NEGOTIATE!!!!

Love the post. I think a lot of consumers see a price and view it as set in stone. However, I think we should approach most purchases like we would approach buying a car and negotiate. Are there any good websites out there that could help start-ups with negotiating?

This is really a nice post. Obviously, you are putting a lot of hard work on your blog. I’m sure I’d come back here more often. You can also visit my site about home based business. – Aymen of Arbitrage Conspiracy.
